Dear faculty, fellows, residents and staff:
Yesterday was truly a history-making day for our department. We received a very generous philanthropic investment by our very own Dr. Santosh Sharma, Professor Emeritus. Dr. Sharma has created the very first endowed chair for our department! The Lakshmi Devi and Devraj Sharma Endowed Chair in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health at the John A. Burns School of Medicine is being named in honor of Dr. Sharma’s parents. Her gift is truly an investment in the future of our department and will benefit the specialists we train and the community we serve. Her creation of this endowed chair is a testament to the strength of our programs and will bring honor and prestige to our department and the medical school. The named endowment will be submitted to the UH Board of Regents for approval in late September and the endowment will begin to generate resources for the to-be-named endowed chair-holder in 2015.
