A Note from the Chair

E Komo Mai! Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health (ObGyn) at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), University of Hawai`i at Manoa.  Our core values of integrity and excellence inspire us achieve our mission of advancing Women’s Health in Hawaii through excellence in education, research, clinical care and community service in perpetuity.

Our department maintains a large, diverse faculty team who serve in numerous leadership capacities within our medical school, faculty practice and partner institutions. We provide a wide range of highly specialized women’s health care in areas such as General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, Menopause, Family Planning, Infertility and Reproductive Endocrinology, Addiction Medicine and Critical Care. Some of our key community partnerships include Kapi`olani Medical Center for Women & Children, The Queen’s Medical Center, Pali Momi Medical Center, the Hawai`i State Health Department, and numerous federally-qualified health centers. Our clinical practice is part of University Health Partners of Hawaii – faculty practice of our medical school.

We also host two successful and nationally recognized post-residency Fellowships in Family Planning and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.  Our Residency Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ObGyn) has components of both an academic center and a community based program, and supports 25 residents.  Our residency graduates go on to find positions in academic medicine, community centers, private practice as well as fellowships throughout the country. Our third year medical student clerkship and fourth year electives are consistently some of the highest rated rotations by students from JABSOM as well as students visiting from other medical schools.
