Effective July 1, 2019, our third and fourth year residents began rotating in Hilo for a one month rotation in gynecologic surgery. While there, each resident is supervised by our faculty, seeing patients in the departmental faculty practice and participating in their surgical care. This rotation offers our learners invaluable training in a low-resources setting to complement the training we currently offer in Honolulu. Early reports from the residents are extremely positive – they are grateful for the aloha shown to them by the Hilo Medical Center staff and community, and they value being able to experience life and practice on the Big Island.
