On May 9, 2017, it was announced that Dr. Angela Pratt has given a generous gift to the University of Hawai’i Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health to advance care on the neighbor islands and to support the health of Native Hawaiian women.

Dr. Pratt is part of the department’s clinical faculty and currently the first Native Hawaiian and first female chairperson of the Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children OBGYN Department. Her background and experiences have contributed to her understanding of the needs of Hawai‘i and her dedication to serving its people. Her roots are traced back to the island of Kaua‘i, where her great-great-great grandmother, Princess Waialiʻi, lived. She was a graduate of John A. Burns School of Medicine’s ‘Imi Ho‘ōla program, and she also received her training as a medical student and resident with JABSOM. She emphasized that this gift and its dedication to women’s health encapsulates the spirit of all those who have trained her and all those who have walked alongside her in her journey.

This gift will support women’s health on the neighbor islands and support research in Native Hawaiian women’s health, for the well-being and empowerment of Native Hawaiian women. The Department wholeheartedly thanks Dr. Pratt for her immense passion to serve the people of Hawai‘i.
