It was Research Week for the University of Hawai‘i Department of Ob/Gyn and Women’s Health from May 17 to May 19, 2017. This year’s guest speaker, Visiting Professor Eve Espey, MD, MPH, is the chair for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of New Mexico, and she holds many distinguished positions in the Society of Family Planning, the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, and the American College of Ob-Gyn’s work group for Long Acting Reversible Contraception. In addition to the lectures Dr. Espey gave to the department, she served as a member of the judging panel for Research Day on May 18.
This year, Research Day was dedicated to Tod Aeby, MD, MEd, who helped to create Resident Research Day during his term as the Ob/Gyn Residency Program Director. Dr. Aeby has served as a mentor to residents on many projects and as an inspiration for many in pursuing quality research. He continues to support residents in their research endeavors and experiences.
For Research Day, many impressive, cutting-edge projects were shared by the third-year residents, family planning and maternal-fetal medicine fellows, and others. Congratulations to Charlie Wang, MD on receiving the “First Place Award” and the “Audience Choice Award,” and congratulations to all the presenters for their innovative research projects.
